Misinterpretation #1: “Approved submittal” does not mean “approved installation method.”

Section 3.2.5 says you verify field conditions after approval. Not before. Not instead of.

I saw a tile job get torn out because the installer assumed the submittal covered substrate prep. It didn’t.

Misinterpretation #2: Finish schedule notes are not suggestions. They’re binding. Section 6.1.8 requires color and texture matching under CRI ≥90, 5000K lighting.

That means your sample board gets judged under museum-grade lights. Not office fluorescents. (Yes, really.)

Misinterpretation #3: Using ASTM C1396-14 when -22 is referenced? That’s a violation. Appendix A only cross-references active editions.

Superseded clauses get flagged (unless) you skip Appendix A. Which some people do.

One project lost $185k on adhesive rework. They missed Section 8.5.2’s cure-time escalation clause. Another avoided a three-week delay by flagging Section 4.3.1 conflicts early.
